Members of the professional music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota recently overcame an F5 tornado to land a Katherine Bekker National College Chapter Achievement Award.

The award, annually given to a single chapter whose officers and members have achieved distinction in completing the obligations at both a local and national level, was won through a lot of hard work and a little bit of miracle.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, about 60 protestors braved 30-degree temperatures and driving snow while standing in front of the post office on Washington Street holding rainbow flags, banners and signs with sayings such as, "Can we vote on your marriage, too?"

The protestors took to the streets in solidarity with other such groups across the country to voice their disapproval of California's Proposition 8 - a measure which banned same-sex marriages across the state of California.
