Women come from behind to defeat the Vikings by 20

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 4, 2009) -- The Minneapolis Community and Technical College women's basketball team came back in dramatic fashion to defeat the Itasca Community College Vikings in Bowman Hall on Dec. 4.

The Vikings led by as as many as 10 during the first half, but the Mavs cut the lead to four at the half.

In the final ten minutes, the Mavs proved to be dominant team, going up by 20 by the end.

Two steals by Krystal McQueen (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) with about six-half-to swung the momentum decidedly in the Mavs favor.

Briana Blackhawk (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led all scorers with 28.

Sierra Howard (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) had 12 points while Erin Wahl (So., Blaine, Minn.) and McQueen each had 10.

For the Vikings, Lexi Daniels (So., Remer, Minn.) had 22 points and Kwilajaa Reed (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) had 16.

With six-and-half to play in the second, the Mavs lead by seven.

At halftime, the Vikings (5-0) lead the Mavericks (5-0) by a score of 37-33. Mavs Briana Blackhawk (So., Brooklyn Center, Minn.) leads all scorers with 14 points. Blackhawk.

In the first half, the Mavs were down by as many as 10 points before cutting the lead to four at the half.

The Mavericks return to action tomorrow, playing host to Northland at 1:00 p.m. in Bowman Hall.
