Christian charity distributes food on campus

Campus Crusade for Christ members will be bringing food to local churces

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 30, 2009) -- A Christian social service organization used Laurel Avenue outside the parking ramp at MCTC to distribute food intended for local churches.

Campus Crusade for Christ -- a church-centered charity based in Florida -- is holding a convention in Minneapolis is staying at the Downtown Hilton but is using the parking ramp for convention members.

According to Curt Schmidt, MCTC public safety director, the group brought in about $2,000 over the length of the convention.

Group members walked from the Hilton to MCTC this afternoon, where volunteers in two moving trucks unloaded the food, which is packaged in cardboard boxes.

As snow fell, members were unperturbed, and lined up near the motorcycle parking area and some crowded into Subway for lunch.

Students from institutions such as St. Cloud State, the University of Iowa and the University of West Virginia attended.
