MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 5, 2009) - Sierra Howard (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) led all scorers with 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Minneapolis Community and Technical College Mavericks defeated the Northland Community and Technical College in women's basketball action this afternoon at Bowman Hall.

The Mavericks (7-0) remain undefeated on the season with the win, while the Pioneers fell to 3-5. After a come-from-behind victory last night, the Mavs had an easier time with the Northland, leading nearly the whole game.

At the half, MCTC led by 16 and opened a 23 point led at 69-46 late in the second half. The Pioneers went on a 13-5 run to close the game to 15 at the final whistle.

In addition to Howard's double- double, Briana Blackhawk (So., Brooklyn Center, Minn.), Brittany Monio (So., Stillwater, Minn.) and LaVera Jeffrie (So., St. Paul, Minn.) all scored in double-digits; with 15, 14 and 10 points respectively.

For the Pioneers, Whitney Langen (So., Kennedy, Minn.) had 16 points and Chelsea Gray (So., Bagley, Minn.) had 13 points.

All other Pioneers scored less than ten points, though all players scored at least two.

As a team, the Mavs shot 32.6 percent from inside the arch and did not hit a single three-point shot during the game (0/15). They converted 18 of 21 free throw changes (85.7%). The Mavs return to action next weekend, traveling to northern Minnesota to talk on Rainey River on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. and Hibbing on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m.
