MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 29, 2009) -- Briana Blackhawk (So., Brooklyn Center, Minn) led all scorers with 26 points, but it was not enough as Minneapolis Communithy and Technical College fell 71-64 to United Tribes Technical College in nonconference action this afternoon in Bowman Hall.

United Tribes, a Division II team from Bismark, N.D. had just six players suit up, but managed keep the game close through much of the first and seconds half before mounting a late rally to claim the win. The Mavericks led by as much as 12 early in the first half

In addition to Blackhawk's 26 points, MCTC (10-2) was led by a Natalye Horne (So., St. Paul, Minn.) double-double (22 points, 16 rebounds). No other players scored more than seven points.

United Trives (4-2) were led by double-doubles from Cristin Haase (So., Lidgerwood, N.D.) and Marie Spotted-Horse (Fr., Mandaree, N.D.). Two other players scored in double figures. Haase had 20 points and ten rebounds. Spotted-Horse had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Both Nicole Wells (So., New Town, N.D.) and Kristin Bearstail (So., Bismark, N.D.) had 15 points.

Neither team shot well, with both teams hitting one third of their shots from the field, but the edge went to United in shots from beyond the arch and from the charity stripe with one more three-pointer and two more free throws. United also capitilized on tournovers, scoring 28 points to MCTC's 11.

Both team return to action tomorrow when United Tribes faces Rochester at noon and the Mavericks face Mesabi Range at 4 p.m.
